Dusty, brick, mahogany color, not very bright; earthy, dusty aromas, low fruit; medium bodied, dull on the palate, adequate structure; dry, low acid, balanced; leathery, dusty flavors, medium depth of fruit; short finish, soft aftertaste.
This thick, purple mavrodaphne reserve has gone the way of a tawny Port, age simultaneously lightening and deepening its flavors. Now the fruit is more baked apple and apricot, while the freshness has turned to truffle, spice and deep caramel. Most remarkedly, the sweetness has mellowed considerably, giving plenty of ripe flavors while finishing light and clean.
90 POINTS!!!
Focused and balanced, this elegant red delivers plum, licorice and vanilla flavors, with fresh acidity and floral and mineral notes over fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2012. 3,000 cases imported. –TM
THE WINE SPECTATOR
The nose is very refined and elegant, with fragrant, sweet aromas. The aromas are well integrated, with harmony between the fruity and balsamic notes. The palate is consistent and elegant, from the attack, through the mid-palate to the finish. The aftertaste matches the characteristics of the aromas giving a long, pleasant finish. These are the characteristics of Guado al Tasso as it is released onto the market - a wine with great class and a high potential for ageing in bottle.
A terrific blend of Syrah, Grenache, Carignane, Mourvedre, Dolcetto, Barbera and "others too numerous to mention". Sound interesting? You bet. This is quite unlike any wine you probably have had in quite some time, and after one glass you will be back for more! Give it a try and see for yourself!
Three unique varietals combine lush berry and fierce spice into a wine characterized by its incandescence. Brighter fruit and brighter spice highlight this vintage of the deep ruby apparition. Aromas of plums and cherries are embraced by touches of black pepper. From the deep dark depths, subtle notes of anise, juniper and vanilla emerge and compliment the concentrated fruit characters of this wine. Captured in 1, 2 and 3 year old American oak barrels, this wine showcases the best these distinct varietals have to offer.
Though this wine is remarkable now, age in the bottle will only integrate the three unique varietals more. Welcome the winery ghost into your home again with this latest vintage, and enjoy with full-flavored and hearty meals…before it vanishes again.

Grape Varieties: 100% Aglianico di Taurasi, harvested in part from century-old pre-phylloxera vines. Vinification: Manual harvesting starts in mid-October and lasts until early November. After pressing, a long maceration on the skins takes place. Once malolactic fermentation is completed, the wine is aged for 14 months in new French oak barrels prior to release.
Intense, persistent bouquet of rich wild cherries, toasted oak and warm vanilla. Soft, dense and well-balanced. The finish is long and pleasant, with flavors of red berries against a smooth background of toast and spice.
